Intro to Creative Writing I (Sr. Level: Rising 10-12 Graders)
July 15 – July 20—9 a.m.-12 a.m.

This camp will provide an introduction to Creative Writing, giving high school students a chance to explore various genres–fiction, poetry and personal memoir–in interactive workshops. No previous creative writing experience is assumed, and even experienced writers will gain new skills in different genres. We will focus on generative writing, using exercises and models to explore each genre. This is a great camp for students who like to write (or think they might like to write) or for students who have not enjoyed academic writing could benefit from a more creative approach to writing. The skills learned here will translate into improved confidence and performance in academic writing.

Students will

  • Explore basic elements of poetry, fiction and nonfiction through interactive writing exercises.
  • Produce their own fiction, non-fiction and poetry writing
  • Be introduced to great writing in all three genres
  • Receive constructive, ungraded feedback on their writing
  • Explore creatively with language and words.
  • Develop confidence in the writing process and writing skills
  • Receive a course handbook with writing exercises and tips.
