This camp offers students the time and space to draft their college essay, while teaching writing skills that are essential for a strong personal statement: vivid, detail, structuring a narrative arc, creating compelling introductions, and crafting and editing sentences for efficiency and concision.
Students who are daunted by the idea of writing the college essay will find encouragement, guidance and camaraderie in our group workshop–and hopefully have some fun too! Our recent grads have a history of acceptance to schools such as Yale, Penn, NYU, UNC, Colorado College, Oberlin, Washington University, Bowdoin and a long list of other great schools.
The best part? The skills learned in this class will translate into other areas of writing, making your student a better writer overall!
This course will
- Provide students the structure, guidance and schedule to complete a rough draft of their college essay
- Help students brainstorm creatively about a college essay topic.
- Use dynamic exercises and an interactive workshop structure to teach writing skills such as effective introductions, description, and narrative structure
- Provide supportive, constructive feedback to each individual student
- Provide a handbook with models, tips and reference tools that students can keep as a writing resource
